An advocate is a consistent, trusted person in your corner. Day-to-day advocacy means help with housing, benefits, safety planning, referrals, and whatever comes up. Case management helps you set goals and take practical steps toward stability — at your pace.
Support Groups
Connect with others who understand what you're going through. Our support groups are facilitated by trained advocates and provide a safe, confidential space to share, heal, and build community. Contact us for current group schedules.
Counseling & Therapy
Trauma-informed counseling is available through Waypost. We can provide direct counseling or connect you with licensed therapists in the community. We meet you where you are — no prior experience with therapy required.
Community Outreach
Our outreach advocates bring services directly to rural communities across a 6-county region so geography is never a barrier to getting help. Serving Yankton, Bon Homme, Clay, Turner, Charles Mix, and Douglas counties.
What Does Advocacy Look Like?
Advocacy isn't one-size-fits-all. Here are some of the ways Waypost advocates help:
• Understanding your options without pressure to make any specific decision
• Finding safe housing or transitional living
• Accessing public benefits, childcare, or transportation
• Accompanying you to medical appointments, court, or other appointments
• Creating a safety plan that fits your actual life
• Navigating the criminal justice process if charges have been filed
• Connecting with legal aid, therapists, or other community services
• Support for children who have witnessed or experienced violence
All services are free and confidential. You can access advocacy without staying in shelter, without filing a police report, and without committing to any particular course of action.
